Cleaning Instructions for esmo semicon pogo towers

Clean the pin with clean, dry, and oil-free compressed air at a maximum line pressure of 2 bar.

Clean the pin with a fine, dust-free hair brush – the pin tips of older pogo towers may also be cleaned with a metal wire brush (Nanotek brush) to remove oxide layers.

In the most unfavourable case, the product DeoxIT GOLD could be applied – nevertheless, it has the disadvantage that the liquid adhering to the pin will lead to a further accumulation of microparticles after a certain time.

Please do not use plastic brushes by any means – plastic microparticles sticking to the pin tip may cause contact problems. Also, do not use any glass fibre brushes – they destroy the gold layer, and are detrimental to human health due to the microparticles they release.

Please do not use alcohol for cleaning under any circumstances – due to its capillary effect, alcohol penetrates the pin and impairs the pin properties because of its residues.

Compressed Air Cleaning

Blow with clean, dry, and oil-free compressed air on the pogo pins. If possible, vary the angle and position of the nozzle tip so that any dust/debris on the pin will be blown off.

The distance from the tip to the pin will be dependent on the amount of air flow through the nozzle – in general, however, the tip should be kept more than 2.54 cm (1 inch) away from the pin during this process. Line pressure should not exceed 2 bar. This cleaning technique is most recommended by esmo semicon.

Soft-Bristle Brush Cleaning

Soft-bristle brush cleaning is generally used for helping to remove any dust and debris from the pogo pins. To do this, gently brush the pogo pins from multiple angles to dislodge any dust or debris.

Nanotek Brush Cleaning

Nanotek brush cleaning is mostly applied to remove contamination/debris on pogo pins originating from solder migration. To do this, gently brush the pins in the pogo tower – since the brush type is metal, extra care needs to be taken to ensure that no damage to the pins will occur. The force required for cautious pogo pin cleaning is roughly equivalent to the force used when brushing your teeth. Any additional force will not guarantee better cleaning results.

The Nanotek brush should only be pulled (never pushed) for cleaning – in case the brush is pushed, its bristles may deform, and thus reduce the lifetime of the brush.

The Nanotek brush should mainly be used to clean those specific points where pogo pins make contact with a device. Other than general cleanliness, the cleaning of other locations will not affect the contact interface between the pogo pin and the device. Once the contact points have been determined, please brush each point 5 to 10 times to ensure thorough cleaning.

Different-sized Nanotek brushes are available for use in various applications.

DeoxIT Gold

In the most unfavourable case, the product DeoxIT GOLD could also be applied. Nevertheless, it has the disadvantage that the liquid adhering to the pin will lead to a further accumulation of microparticles. For this reason, this method is not recommended by esmo semicon.

For the use of this cleaning medium, please read the manufacturer's instructions for use.
